As the public's interest in celebrity images grew, many photo agencies were established worldwide specializing in this type of photography. New technological advancements allowed for images to be wired around the world with a rapidity not before seen. The routine activities of celebrities were consumed on a weekly, and even daily, basis. Often photographs were hand-painted, a form of retouching comparable to today's use of digital airbrushing. The works in this exhibition are original press photographs printed at the time of the original story, not later reprints.
