TESS HURRELL

Tess Hurrell's work is primarily studio-based photography that incorporates sculptural devises, often their relationship being integral to their mutual existence. The transparency or simplicity of the construct acts to frame photography as a subject, questioning its particular perception of space and time.

By bringing objects and images into the private realm of the studio, an intimate relationship is born between the everyday and its possibilities. The nature of the constructions can be playful and transient, and are poetic ways of approaching subjects of urban living, escapism, science, the impact of images on society as well as ongoing themes of transformation, vision and economy.

Tess Hurrell is a London based photographic artist, born in Zimbabwe 1975. Since graduating from the University of Brighton in 2006, her work has been exhibited and published in the UK and internationally, including in Women in Art Photography U.K. shown at Taschen, London alongside James Hyman Photography artist Karen Knorr in October 2010.
