Alan Davie (b.1920) Monument to a Celtic Spirit no. 2 Signed, dated and inscribed with the title and opus number on the front Gouache on paper 51 x 76 cms (20 x 30 inches) 2001 Alan Davie discussed his inspiration from Celtic sources in a series of letters exchanged with James Hyman published in the catalogue accompanying a recent exhibition of his work at James Hyman Gallery. "I feel strongly that I am, as it were, - TAPPING IN - to the vast store of imagery which makes up our artistic heritage from CAVE ART onwards - and of course - being of CELTIC origins one can discern a link with ancient Nordic culture.
